I am a professor of early modern Chinese literature, comparative literature, and intellectual history. Iām also a cartoonist and graphic artist. A recipient of fellowships from the Getty Center (2024-2025), National Humanities Center (2020-2021), and Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation (2024-2025), I teach in the Asian Languages and Cultures department at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota and previously taught in the Classics department at Brown University and the Chinese department at Middlebury College. I hold degrees in comparative literature from Columbia University (BA) and the University of Chicago (PhD). My scholarship includes three books ā a monograph, an edited volume, and a translation ā as well as several articles. My comics have appeared in periodicals including Inside Higher Ed and Seven Days. I am also a graphic narrative contributor to Global Anti-Asian Racism and to The COVID Chronicles: A Comics Anthology. I live in Saint Paul, Minnesota but consider Taipei and New York homes away from home.
